Diigo is a communication tool that can be used anyone; students, teachers, employees, etc. It allows you to do research on the web while saving certain pieces of information to your own personal page. It allows you to highlight whatever information from a page you would like and save it on to your home page as a note rather than an entire web page. You can share your site with other people but only if you wish to, you can keep it private as well. But if you do choose to share your website it allows others to view your blogs and research notes that you have saved to your page.
Advantages of the tool
This tool is efficient because it allows you to save only specific bits of information that you feel necessary and what you feel will be necessary to you. This is definitely an advantage compared to having to save entire documents and web pages which takes extra time to go through all of the information to find the parts you want to use. It is effective because it allows you to have quick access to your researched information on your own personal page that you can use to put together a research project straight from your own page. It enhances learning because it forces you to do conduct research and thoroughly look through it to find the best information.
Disadvantages (limitations) of the tool
A disadvantage would be that since it is still a relatively new social bookmarking page, there are not as many users yet which makes it hard to find new resources posted by other people.
Application of the tool in your subject area
As a teacher i would set up a classroom web page that the students could all use. As the teacher i would simply monitor the page and make sure that everyone is participating and make sure that people are adding the right information. You could do a certain page for each different topic in class and assign all of the students different parts to conduct their own research to add to the page. This would be effective and fun for the class because it would feel like one big group project that the students are working on together which would make the students want to help each other and work together.
